My name is Max Goodman and I am a senior at John Jay High School in Cross River NY. I began running competitively in 7th grade when a good friend asked me to join modified cross country. I am so thankful I did! By the time I was in 8th grade, I was the top runner in my middle school and I won my first 5k in my hometown that same year! That moment changed my life because I realized what I could accomplish with hard work and dedication. It was amazing! Once in high school, I made the varsity XC team as a freshman. I quickly learned a lot from my upperclass teammates and that taught me about teamwork and how valuable it is. My team is VERY important to me. Now I'm the team captain at John Jay High School and I'm teaching the underclassmen what I've learned.
I'm looking for a college that will be a good fit athletically and academically. As a student on the autism spectrum, I'm looking for a college with good student support services and a team that's supportive and will cheer each other on. I think my perseverance to overcome obstacles, my hard work, and my loyalty to my team are my biggest and best qualities. Running has taught me what it means to be a part of a team.
I think I have the talent to be a huge asset for the right college team. -Max Goodman
