As a junior and co-captain of my high school track team, I have found a sport that I enjoy and pushes me to be my best self. Although I tried several sports growing up, none seemed to be a good fit until I discovered track and field. I have natural speed and agility, so I realized this was a place I could thrive, build overall confidence, and practice self discipline in another area of my life.
My leadership as a co-captain includes helping to lead practices and motivating teammates. I was humbled and honored to be elected as captain by my peers, which shows their confidence in me. In addition to success on the track, I hold myself to high academic standards. My goal is to study business and entrepreneurship in college. The structure of being a student-athlete appeals to me greatly - the balance of academics and athletics, the support of a team, in addition to the continuous physical and mental challenges.
Running makes me feel empowered and happy. I find myself smiling on my runs just thinking about my love for the sport. Because of track, I feel more optimistic in my personal relationships, academic career, and it’s proven to be an essential part of keeping my mind, body, and spirit healthy. Running became a personal passion as soon as I joined my high school team. As one of the top runners on my team, I love pushing myself and competing alongside my teammates.
In the future, I hope to contribute to the overall academic community as part of a college track and field program, while working towards a business degree. The skills I learn from this sport - leadership, time management, and perseverance - will serve me far beyond my running career and set me up for lifelong success.
