I have been running since I was eight years old, working towards my black belt in Taekwondo. It was a requirement that you complete 50 miles over a few months, then compete in two club 5k races of which you needed to run under a certain time. As one of the youngest black belt candidates, I found that I did very well in the required running and have been doing it every since I received my black belt.
I enjoy running alone with my father coach riding next to me, or with my teammates. It is a peaceful time where I get to be outside, year round, and enjoy the scenery.
I have been racing with the high school varsity team since 7th grade. I had the option of racing in the middle school division, and likely winning races, or racing varsity and doing a lot of suffering and learning at the same time. I chose to learn to become a better runner and see how I could push myself.
It's been a great journey so far, and I look forward to the next four years of high school learning both academically and as an athlete.
