Personal Statement

People have certain things that make them the person they are today. Something they cannot live without. These are the things that will always be in the person’s life. They’ll always have a special place in their heart. It can be a hobby, a person, or even an object.  For me, those things are track and field, and photography.

Track and field is my favorite sport to compete in and the one I excel at the most. I was able to rank seventh in my county class in eleventh grade and I jumped 36’11.5 in the triple jump event. That year was also my first year doing track and field, and I was able to make the county championship team. There is something about track and field that just gets me going. My mind and body are in a different place when I am jumping than when I play football or basketball.

Photography is something that I became interested in at the age of fifteen. For my birthday, my mom bought me my first camera, a Digital Single-Reflex( DSLR). I have spent the past few years developing a portfolio for the future. It's composed of pictures of my friends and family, along with landscapes, cars, and objects. Photography allows me to get creative in a way no other form of art can. I can toy with my camera to make great pieces of art that I can say  I am proud of.

Photography and track are both things I enjoy and want to continue to do in life. They have both helped me mentally and physically so far in life. I hope to continue jumping in college as well as studying photography and journalism. I want to grow as a photographer and also go from a great to an amazing jumper in college.

The limit for me is the sky and beyond after high school. Certain people give up on their dreams after a certain amount of time. I’m not going to do that. I wanna make something of myself after high school that involves my interests. I want to become a photojournalist and a freelance photographer in New York. I'm gonna document the rest of my track and field career through my camera to intertwine both into one thing. I want to create a project where I take a picture everyday for the next four years. I hope I can do all of this at your school.
