My name is Tyler Schaefer and I am 5'8 127lb distance runner. I started running Varsity Track in 8th grade when I was pulled up by the head coach. This year will be my second year running cross country because in 9th grade I was on the Varsity Soccer team. In preparation for this Cross Country season, I averaged over 50 miles per week this summer and I'm ready for a strong year. During my first year of cross country, I ran my first real 5K in 17:53 and led my team to a 4th place finish while taking 15th overall. This time was a 90 second improvement of my previous non-official 5K personal record which I ran 2 months before. Along with this, I was able to run 18:17 at my main cross-country course, Sunken Meadow, which is known as one of the hardest courses in New York State with its massive 'Cardiac Hill'. My favorite achievement is when my team and I ran in the sophomore race at the Manhattan Invitational 4000m and I finished 2nd overall in 14:05 while leading my team to a massive 1st place victory over schools that are significantly larger than us. I view my current racing times as solid for my age, but I do plan on improving them greatly this year. I also pride myself with my grades. Academically I am ranked 3rd in my class out of 267 students and I have a 4.0 GPA while taking the hardest courses my school offers in every subject. As my times improve and my high grades stay consistent, I plan on finding a college that is a good fit for me both athletically and academically.
