Ideally I would really like to be part of a track and field team at a D1, D2, or NAIA university. I have truly enjoyed being a member of our high school team, both the full T&F team, and especially the throws crew. Having played on the school basketball team, I was surprised and interested when the T&F coach approached me about considering joining the team. That spring of my sophomore year, when I began throwing I realized 2 things: First, I fell in love with the sport; Secondly, I discovered that it would require me being willing to do the research and learn the techniques and intricacies primarily on my own. At my first meet I was throwing 34 feet and change with the shuffle method, I have since thrown 50'+ in off season training as a rising senior with the rotational technique. My discus career started with a season PR of 88' and change at the end of sophomore season and ended up with a season PR of 145'2" as a junior. This summer I competed in the BodyArmor state games with my club team and medaled. As for hammer, I started this summer as a rising senior. I've had 3 practices where I've thrown the hammer so far and I've thrown 110'+ so far with improvement coming in the very near future. Due to my location I don't have access to many hammer meets at all, with the closest ones being hours away. Aside from throws, I basically live in the weight room, I squat, bench, and clean at least 2x per week in the off season in order to maximize strength that I can use for the sport. I've appreciated the support and encouragement that my family and friends along the way. My grades and work ethic set me apart from the other recruits. I was always the one to train on days that we didn't have practice, and I finished semester 2 of junior year with a 4.7 semester GPA with 2 AP classes and the rest honors classes. One of the best parts of my experience so far has been taking a leadership role with the other members on our throws crew. Teaching, guiding and cheering them on as a peer has also contributed to my development. The possibility of growth, learning and camaraderie from being part of a college team would be an achievement that I feel I have worked hard for and that I could offer added value to the entire team experience. My commitment is real. Thank you!
