Hello, my name is Sam Veverka. Currently, I'm a junior attending Riverdale High School in Portland, Oregon. One goal I have for myself is to continue my love for track and field at the college level. I'm a great student and a hard worker. Getting good grades is something I pride myself on. Whether the class is something I'm good at or bad, I always push myself to get a good grade in the class. My academic perseverance is shown with my 3.79 GPA. A strength I see in myself is that I'm very coachable. When given instruction on how to improve, I listen. Rather than getting upset at a coach or angry with my poor performance, I challenge myself to just stay calm and listen to the coach. Before falling in love with track and field, soccer was my true passion. Soccer is a sport I had been playing for both school and club since I was about 7 years old. Being a part of a team was something I really enjoyed, but it had its weaknesses. It felt as if I wasn't pushing myself hard enough due to the fact there were others on the team. If I made a mistake, others had my back. Track is different. When standing down the runway to the pit, it's me vs. everyone else. This me vs. the world mentality is why I love track so much, the sport has taught me to give 110% effort in order to win.
