My interest in discus began in 7th grade when I first competed in track and field in several events. Over time, my love for throwing grew and discus became my primary focus. I am excited that I now have the opportunity to do something I have dreamed about for a long time: competing as a thrower at the collegiate level.
I have devoted myself to discus because I enjoy competing against myself. In the ring, I’m extremely coachable and enjoy the process of dissecting each detail of my throwing technique. Outside the ring, I have good weight-room strength and sprinting speed. I think my strongest characteristic as a discus thrower is my determination. Having to fight through bad throwing and lifting days has shaped me into a more determined athlete because these experiences have taught me to not give up in the face of adversity. I’ve learned that if I continue to put in the effort, results will eventually come.
I exhibit this same determination in the classroom, where I maintain a high GPA while being a year-round multi-sport athlete, and within the community, where I volunteer as a Leadership Intern at a local STEM camp and help provide meals to those in need through my church and local food bank programs.
