My initial running experiences primarily involved watching my older siblings compete in middle and high school cross country and track. I was not as gifted physically and athletically when it was my turn to compete. But, I enjoyed running and the comradery and competition between my teammates and I. By the end of my freshman year things started to change. I started to grow and become more lean. My times in the 1600 and 3200 improved dramatically. I was no longer content with just placing or earning points for my team. I saw that I could become a leader and victor. That summer I dedicated myself to becoming a highly competitive runner. I attended Team Prep USA running camp in the mountains of Colorado. The experience greatly improved my running and knowledge about running. By the end of sophomore XC season I was leading the team and won the district championship. I continued to improve throughout sophomore track season, culminating in a 6th place finish at state. Once again attended running camp in Colorado before the start of XC my junior year and, once again, my running improved, along with an appreciation and knowledge about it.
I consider myself to be a social person. I enjoy conversing with my competitors before and after the race. I have developed a wide network of fellow runners through camp and competition. While running has been a big focus over the past couple years, it is important to maintain perspective. I understand the importance of acadenmics, and to be diligent with my coursework to maintain good grades. My academic/career interest is in the health sciences. I desire to assist others in improving or maintaining a healthy lifestyle as a physical therapist or athletic trainer.
Running has changed my life. I look forward to what may lie ahead, and hope to inspire others along the way. Furthermore, I am thankful for the caring, knowledgeable coaches who have helped me along the way.
