Head Heart Guts is a philosophy that I have followed since the beginning of freshman year. It represents the starting off with a smart and controlled viewpoint/mindset, pushing through the challenges, and giving it everything you’ve got.
I apply this to my schoolwork, my teammates, and my sport. Naturally, academics are very important to me. I’ve taken on big challenges in honors and AP classes, I am a consistent high honor roll student, and I have maintained a GPA above 4.0 throughout my high school years.
During our season, I have a very strong team mentality. At every meet, I cheer on the last runner as if he’s the first. I lead group stretches and help the JV runners get started on their workouts before starting my own. This sport can very easily be seen as a solitary sport, and I do my best to prove that this is in fact a team sport through the support and relationships I foster.
This 2020-2021 season, I have achieved my personal record of 16:46 5K and have consistently placed top 10 individually in my conference. My team has also won every meet we have competed at in our conference this season. At a Wisconsin State Invitational, I placed 23rd out of 48 runners which included other D1 schools with strong programs such as Arrowhead, Oconomowoc, and Brookfield East. This season, my team broke the school team record with a 1:25:34 cumulative time.
After a late start to our 2021 track season we put in some extra time to get results of multiple 1st place finishes as a team and I had a 4:33 1600M and a 9:47 3200M. I can’t wait to achieve the personal goals I set for the 2022 season.
This fall 2021 Cross Country season has been an exciting start. After running 40-50 miles per week all summer with some team mates the results are coming. I recently broke our school record with a 15:58 5k September 9th at SLC Relays and again September 25th with a 15:45 at Midwest Invite. Our team has had multiple 1st place finishes.
I’m excited about continuing this drive for excellence in college, academically and athletically. I realize how much a collegiate program requires and I am looking forward to leading with head, heart, and guts in the next endeavor. I’m particularly hyped about helping a coach build a strong team culture and expect to contribute to the team camaraderie and success of a collegiate program.
