My name is Jonathan Bryce Coleman. I have been surrounded by volleyball all my life. My mom Lorri is a retired high school principal. In the summer and on breaks, I’d find myself in the school gym with the volleyball coaches and players. I was the mascot and l developed a true love for the sport.
While living in Texas, the local club (Spike Sports) did not have an age group where I could play however, they allowed me to practice with the 18 select. As soon as we moved to California, I tried out and made Legacy 14 select. Under the direction of Coach Walter Ker and his staff I began to advance in the sport. In 9th grade, I left Legacy for a club closer to home (San Gabriel Elite). Under the direction of Coaches Kenji M. and Brian Thornton our team advanced to JO’s and placed 8th in the nation. This in an incredible team however, I decided to move back to Legacy for my junior year then advanced to a higher ranked team called SoCal Legends for my senior for more visibility to the college arena. This club was also more affordable for my single mom who is currently suffering from stage 2 breast cancer. While she is sick, her number one goal is for me to succeed in life and become a productive citizen. I will do everything in my power to rise to the challenge.
I’m was very happy to be reunited with my Legacy family. Our team chemistry under the direction of Coach Eric Beck was like no other. We finished the 2019 Holiday Classic (17 USA division) winning the Gold Championship and excelling in the January SoCal tournament prior to COVID-19. It was very disappointing to not be able to finish the season however, I tattended the 949 camp, then trained with Legacy, and SoCal Legends over the summer to improve on my skills.
As a Freshman, I made the Varsity Squad at Burbank High School. Coach Rojo loved the way I played defense and moved me to the libero position. Our team has made the playoffs the past two seasons. My junior year was cut short due to Covid-19 just as my cub season. As senior year Captain, I look forward to playing my final high school season under the lead ship of Coach Patrick Tyler.
