My name is Thomas Lawler, I am a 6'4" Middle Blocker and technically I have been a recruitable athlete since 7th grade. (As a participant in Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth, I took the SAT in June of 2015 and was one of the highest scoring participants at that time.) Volleyball, history and theatre are my passions.
I have been playing indoor club volleyball since the 6th grade. I am now entering my 6th consecutive year on a 1's team (MVVC 17 Red) and as a starting Middle Blocker. Together with my teammates, we have won Silver and Bronze in the Open Division of Junior Nationals. Just one color left to get! We have dominated our age division every year in the NCVA and have several medals from regional tournaments. I love my team and my teammates, and am grateful and proud to be a contributor to our success.
As a Middle Blocker, what I may lack in height, I make up for in my versatility as a player. I know the game well, and understand and can play other positions (I have played OH, OPP and Setter for my high school team). I am also mentally tough (I'd like to thank my Viking genes for this). In competition I have the ability to zero in and focus on each play to win. I also am very coachable. I respect and listen to my coaches, and immediately go to work applying the lessons and tips they give me. I respect and support my teammates, they are my family, and I will do anything and everything I can for my team. With my passion for and knowledge of the game, I aim to always be a positive and supportive force on my team. I hope to have the opportunity to do the same and more for my college team.
As a student, I am very fortunate to have always been at the top of my class. I love school, I work hard, and strive to manage my time well. I enjoy learning and stretching my capabilities, particularly in my favorite subjects, History and English. I also enjoy the theatre and have acted in two drama productions at school. I look forward to pursuing my interests in college.
