My name is Michael Scott, I am the youngest of three siblings. I was born in North Battleford, Canada and moved to Illinois, where I have lived for eleven years. My mom and dad have always raised me to try and be the best I can be at whatever I do, and that if I do something I truly have to set my heart to it. I have always played volleyball in grade school, however; it was not until the end of freshman year that I had decided I wanted to play volleyball full-time and quit basketball. It was truly the older influences on my school’s varsity team that inspired me start playing club volleyball at Adversity along with other coaches from camps I attended. It was then I fell in love with the sport of volleyball. While playing volleyball I have learned a few things about myself including leadership, the importance of discipline on and off the court, and finally the importance of being apart of a team. I was named the head-captain of the 16u Adversity Purple team at my club and this showed me the importance of leadership in a team-oriented sport along with many things in my daily life. During my club season, I learned many lessons pertaining to discipline and mental fortitude while practicing almost everyday, abiding by a strict diet and weight-training. Finally, during my first club season, I was invited in almost immediately to a close-knit-group that had developed among my teams program throughout the years before I had arrived. While playing everyday with my teammates, I fell in love with the comradery and teamwork that came with playing the sport. During high school, I hope to continue to excel in my studies and finish with an accumulated 4.0 GPA along with a high ACT score and finally move on to college where I hope to play highly competitive volleyball and get my degree in the field of either engineering or business management. One of the obstacles I have overcome, was starting to play club volleyball at a late juncture in my volleyball career. I had to adapt to the level of play and assimilate into a group of close-knit teammates to where I later became not only the head captain of the team, but also the starting middle for my team. Many people on and off the court, including teachers, coaches and fellow peers would describe me as a hard working, committed individual with strong leadership qualities.
