My name is Luke Hammond,I began playing varsity volleyball in my sophomore year and instantly fell in love. Although I didn't start until my junior year, the court became my second home and practices were my favorite part of the day. In the past 3 years I have seen myself improve greatly; earning myself a spot on my team's starting lineup, but I know there is still a lot of room for improvement. I have been active my whole life doing martial arts for 8 years earning a black belt as well as briefly playing basketball for around 2 years. I was searching for a sport that resonates with me and volleyball turned out to be the perfect fit. Volleyball provides team comradery while leaving room for individual success. My teammates and coaches have always pushed me to get better, this motivation along with my personal desire for constant improvement has led me to grow tremendously as a player.
My work ethic on the court is matched if not exceeded with my school work and volunteer work in the community. I am part of the National Honors Society and also am one of my school's top scholars earning a spot on the highest honor roll each marking period. I am also the co-president of Campus Ministry in my school, and through this program we provide service to the community through collections such as food drives, clothing drives, and toy drives. These items are then distributed to the less fortunate in our community. Outside of school I also participate in events that help provide for individuals with special needs, these events allow them to socialize and have fun playing various sports.
My understanding of the game, willingness to improve and dedication to my team are reasons would be an asset to any team I am fortunate enough to be a part of.
