Hi, my name is Ryl Garrido. I am 17 years old and a class of 2024. I have played OH and the Captain of 15u Scorpions Sting. I have also played for the 16u Scorpions Strikers both teams being under OVA. Currently, I am now playing OH with the KW predators.
Growing up, I was a dual-sport athlete playing mainly soccer. I didn’t shift my focus to volleyball until last season. This is my 2nd year playing club and have already won many awards. I strongly desire an opportunity to play volleyball at a post-secondary level.
Apart from sports, I am a youth leader at my church, volunteer and captain of the CAA safety patrol, and I am also a part of the student council. Last year, my school lacked an athletic council and I helped and spearheaded on re-instating it. I am thankful for these apportunities where I can apply my leadership skills, and for also aiding me in acquiring newfound skills.
I pride myself in my academics all from grade 9 to right now in grade 11. I averaged a 95% in grade 9 (Honour Roll) and I am on track to do the same this year. My work ethic and drive on the court is the same in the as it is in the classroom. I believe that to be successful, you must excel in both.
The skills I have learned over my years of playing a multitude of sports is what contributes to the volleyball player I am today. I have a resilient and positive mindset and you will never see me with a frown on the court. I am disciplined and hardworking during and even outside of practice. I am always looking to improve. I also possess many life skills that I can also apply on the court. I am an excellent leader, have high communications skills, and I am very organized. Overall, this has only been my first year and I am joyed to know that I have so much more to learn.
In conclusion, you can expect me to never slack off as I give 120% to whatever I do. I bring out the best in my teammates and always the loudest one on the court. My optimism and growth mindset drives my aspiration to play post-secondary volleyball.
