I am Carlos Hernandez, I was born in Weslaco Texas but I lived in Mexico for more than 15 years until I moved back to the United States. When I was in 3rd grade of elementary school in Mexico, I started practicing volleyball in a club and now I have been practicing this sport for more than 7 years. I have become very passionate about this sport and every time I practice it I enjoy it more and more. When I began attending Weslaco East High School it was a very big change for me because there was no men's volleyball team in this school. To stay active, I decided to join the swimming team and I have been on the varsity team for more than three years now. However volleyball being my favorite sport I still received invitations to play in leagues outside of school in Mexico so I would practice and play during the weekends. I learned to play the libero position and I immediately knew that is the perfect position for me because I like to be the leader at the back of the court and be moving and helping my teammates make plays. I helped guide my team representing Tamaulipas to a national title win going up against states such as Jalisco, Baja California, and Nuevo Leon.
My current goals are to graduate from my high school with a high GPA and get accepted to the best university that will benefit me in my career and volleyball. I am currently taking Dual enrollment classes to excel academically and joining clubs to become a better leader.
I know that going to university will be a challenge but it is something worth overcoming. Attending university will allow me to obtain an education and gain social skills that will help me be successful in life. My plan for the next 5 years is to play volleyball for a college team while also maximizing my education to become a Spanish professor.
