Growing up I wasn't the biggest person and I was always picked last to play games. This forced me to work three times as hard to not only show everyone that I was as good as everyone else, but to show I was better than them in their own games. This influenced my personality to be competitive with others physically and academically. I became interested in water polo when my uncles introduced it to me. They took me to one of their practices and I fell in love with it. The aggressiveness and teamwork were all extremely attractive to me. Joining high school water polo was probably the best decision I have ever made. I have learned many new things that have not just made me a better athlete but a better person as well.
The water polo program has taught me how to become a leader and how to continue to push myself and never give up. My freshman year was probably the year when I learned the most. I was new to playing water polo. My original sport was competitive swimming. I was not a big person and was not the smartest player at the time. I was definitely reminded of that by the older, more experienced players along with my friends and family. The majority of everyone didn't support me with my decision to join water polo and thought it was a waste of money and time. Regardless of that I worked to prove them wrong. I became captain of the Frosh Soph and JV team. I intend to earn the title of Varsity Captain my senior year. Through the years I played all over the pool. This taught me to be very flexible. In the end my main positions were center defender and the flat. I have been able to hold a 3.3 to 3.5 GPA and I am determined to do well in college as well. I believe my stubbornness and competitive mentality are exactly what your team needs. I don't shy away from hard work and intend to make your team better than it already is.
