My name is Daniel Johnson, and I am interested in playing goalkeeper in college starting in 2021-2022. I am currently a junior in high school (class of 2021) and I have been playing water polo for four seasons. I play for Atlanta Dynamo youth during the spring/summer season, attending JO’s and placing 13th in the classic division. I also play with Atlanta Dynamo Masters, starting December 2019. I was my high school team captain sophomore year, leading a previously winless team to a winning season. I have attended clinics taught by Genai Kerr and Brad Schumacher, and I have attended the SEZ ODP camp and accompanying tournament. My height is 6’1” and I weigh 165 pounds. My tournament placings are:
4th place Georgia State Championships 2017
4th place Georgia State Championships 2018
4th place Carolinas Invitational 2019
5th place SEZ JOQs 2019
4th place Kap7 Atlanta Classic 2019
13th place Junior Olympics 2019 classic division
My primary strengths as a goalie are my leadership abilities and positive attitude. While there is still room for me to improve my strength and technical skills, I know I will be able to develop those even further during the 2020-2021 seasons. I am a firm believer that water polo is as much of a mental game as it is a physical one, and I value my ability to make good decisions under pressure, improve my teammates morale, and set up the offense with their maximum potential to score. My style of play is more cerebral than physical. I approach each block with the goal of tightening the shooting angles and using pressure and intimidation to force a nonoptimal shot.
