I grew up in a water polo house and have always loved being in the water. I started playing organized polo when I was nine. I love the physical intensity of the game and the incredible benefits that training and commitment across four seasons a year brings to my life. I have learned the value of getting up at 5 a.m., training twice a day and being a leader of a team as an underclassman. These lessons have turned me into who I am today and will provide me with grit and determination to excel in academics and be successful in the future.
I have a strong desire to lead my team to elite levels of play. In two years of high school, I have been named to a 14U state first team, received two varsity polo letters, been a rookie of the year and MVP. This season, as a sophomore, I scored 106 goals, which likely places me in the top five scorers in the state. I am on pace to break my high school’s all-time career scoring record as a junior. I have seen my team move from 44th rank in the state to 15th in two years. I help my high school coach design plays, drills and lineups. I have also played in the Chicago Elite club league, Junior Olympics and Olympic Development Program.
I have encountered significant challenges along the way and have enjoyed trying to solve them. As a committed player in the midwest, I have had to go to significant lengths to find the level of play that will make me competitive against peers from the coasts. I have done this by seeking out one of the best clubs in the midwest, by traveling the country for tournaments, camps and combines and by studying the game and asking my coaches a lot of questions. It has also been difficult to build a team at a high school dominated by swimming (state champions both years and national champions freshman year) and where the best swimmers are discouraged from playing polo. I have befriended a number of swimmers and am helping bridge the divide and encouraging them to start polo and remain in both sports.
I value academic performance as much as athletic performance. I plan to study either mechanical or computer science engineering. I currently have a 5.64/5 GPA and scored a 1460/1520 on the PSAT. I am passionate about technology, particularly about commercial applications, solving real world problems and building a business.
In college, I hope to continue the pursuit of elite performance in both academics and water polo. I am committed to maintaining a pattern of early rising, healthy habits, intense physical training and rigorous studies that will help me become the best possible version of myself. I am looking for an environment that provides the camaraderie of a dedicated team and allows me to continue to build my leadership skills. These elements will guide me to the start of a successful career and life.
I am devoted to the game and my teams. I believe in intensity and hard work. But I am positive and outgoing and love bringing people together. I hope you will give me a chance to demonstrate these traits as a part of your program.
