Personal Statement

As a teammate, one of my main goals as a junior and senior was to help our younger players become more skilled to do better in state. During games throughout club, I would often rely on people who were older and better to score, but did everything I could for my part to help my team win the game. Trust is very important to me on high school teams and in club. As are friendships not just in the water but in school or wherever as well. Overall, I think I play my part well as a teammate, but have much to improve upon.

The two weaknesses I have, and have been struggling to overcome, are my legs and shooting the ball. I have never been incredibly accurate, but I have been throwing balls in other sports for a long time, which gave me power in my throw. Often I end up powering the ball into the cage with force, or more sailing in high or throwing it right into the crossbar. As for legs, I can stay afloat just fine, but have trouble elevating out of the water.  I am strong at swimming, quick, and great at scoring goals when I can get close to the cage. I also do well at getting kick-outs on opponents, as my coach in high school often placed me as a driver.

I have been playing water polo for nearly six years. I feel that I have developed a good knowledge of rules and regulations, in addition to how the game works overall.

In a college, I look for support from coaches to improve my skill level in water polo. I also look for good teammates who I know have my back, and who are friends outside of the pool. I look for a good academic system, and a school with some freedom and to get a sense of belonging.
