My name is Jaelen Kelly 2020 catcher, middle infielder, and first baseman. I reside in Alberta, Canada. My height is 5'8" and I weigh 145 lbs. I am a right-handed catcher while I bat from the Left side as a power hitter. I am a very loud and vocal player, I have a strong arm and a good sense of the game, though I would like to further that knowledge and skill at the collegiate level. I would like to further my education by taking a Kinesiology/ Exercise Science program.
I play the highest and most competitive softball in Canada for 18U Alberta Athletics Elite. We have played in multiple showcase tournaments in the United States such as Zoom into June 2018 and the Early Thanksgiving Showcase, as well as playing in the 2018 PGF Nationals as the first ever Canadian team invited to participate. We have had many personal and team training sessions with our coaches from California, coach Rob Baca and coach Dave Mercado, coach Jeff Lehr in California as well as Canada. I also play for Arizona Suncats 18U since October 2019 and travel down to participate in as many of their tournaments and showcases as possible.
I took my SAT during my junior year of high school and scored 1070 while I do intend to take the test again as well as take the ACT.
Although softball may be my main passion, I have many other hobbies in my life and like to keep myself busy constantly. I also played Men's baseball for eleven years, Team Alberta Women's Baseball where we placed 2nd or 3rd at nationals for four of my five consecutive years playing on the provincial team, boys lacrosse for three years, Men's hockey for eight years as well as women's hockey for two years. I was only a few days old when I was first introduced to sports, I followed behind my older brother for my entire childhood. Whether it had been, Hockey rinks, Lacrosse arenas, Volleyball gyms or Baseball diamonds, I was always tagging along and from him I developed my love of sports. I would not be who I am today without sports, I use sports as my motivation for everything in my life, and everything in my life as my motivation for sports. I focus my grades, friends, lifestyle, and all the choices I make on the fact that I would like to go to post-secondary, play for a university/college team and further my education. I love sports because I know it’s more than just going through the motions. I love learning the game itself and everything it can teach you, I love putting in the effort in order to receive the results I desire, and I love being apart of something that can change people’s lives just like it did for me. I would like to study Kinesiology and Sports Physiology because I know I will not be able to play sports for the rest of my life but I would like to be involved with it as much as I can for as long as I can. I feel like I could be apart of so many different peoples lives.
This will be my fifth season of playing softball, though I grew up playing boys baseball for 11 years. I recently made the transition over to softball from baseball a few years ago due to the fact that I wanted to play softball in post-secondary and possibly receive a scholarship. When I first joined softball I played for the Airdrie Angels community softball team as well as continuing to play for the Airdrie Aces Junior A Little League baseball team for that season, the Centennial All Star Boys Baseball summer team, and as well I played for the Team Alberta Women’s Baseball team during the summer for the last four years. My next two seasons of softball I played for the Calgary Adrenaline U16 A team, as well the Airdrie Aces Senior A Little League baseball team, the Team Alberta Women’s Baseball team, and then for the 222’s Fastpitch Winter Travel team. I am currently playing for the Alberta Athletics Elite as well as the Arizona Suncats 18U and making frequent softball trips to Southern United States for games, tournaments, and training. My greatest Baseball career highlights and memories come from playing on Team Alberta, my first year I played for the Peewee Women’s team, we went undefeated in the Western Canadian Championship in Spruce Grove Alberta, and placed first overall to bring home a gold medal. I also received catcher and MVP of the tournament. My next year of Team Alberta I played for the Bantam Women’s team, we traveled to Saguenay Quebec and placed third in the Canadian National Championship. The year after that, again I played for the Bantam Women’s team. We traveled to Vaughan Ontario for Nationals and ended up placing fifth overall. The next season I also played for the Bantam team, we went undefeated until the final game where we fell just short of a gold medal, placing second in the country at the 2016 Bantam Women’s National Championship.
Sports are not the only thing I enjoy spending my time on. I love to create art and play and sing to music as well as spend time with my friends and family.
I would love the opportunity to further my softball career at the collegiate level and further my education. I believe I could be a great asset to your team in many different ways.
Thank you for your time and consideration,
Jaelen Kelly 2020 Catcher and Middle Infielder.
