My name is Ireland Strubbe and I am a 5'10 pitcher/ utility player. I have aspirations to play softball at the collegiate level. I started playing softball when I was 9 years old. I quickly fell in love with the game, but it was not until I became a pitcher that I wanted to pursue playing the game beyond my high school years. However, during one of my first outings as a pitcher, I was struck in the face from a line drive. This was my first lesson in softball and a true testament of how much I love the game. From this experience I learned to be tough, resilient, and how to overcome obstacles. I have become dedicated to the game year round in all aspects of softball, not only pitching, but hitting, fielding, and base running. I am very focused on my goals and have worked hard to understand the game, getting me to where I am today.
In addition to softball, academics are also of high importance to me. I want to attend a college that will challenge me academically as well as one that helps me down a path to pursue a promising career. Sports medicine and journalism are where my interests lie in choosing a future career. Soon after entering elementary school, I was identified as gifted, and placed into a special program that enhanced my learning to set me up for further academic accolades. In high school, I am enrolled in honors and advanced classes with a 4.78 GPA and maintain straight A's. School has taught me important lessons that can also be applied to softball, such as working hard, helping others, and being mentally tough. In both school and softball, I am highly competitive to be at the top of my class and level of skill. I am not only a strong academic candidate but also an athlete who is highly coachable, competitive, and a team player, that will no doubt add value to your school.
