Babe Ruth said it best, “It’s hard to beat a person who never gives up.” Throughout my life, I have always been determined to achieve what I wanted. My parents have told the story a million times about my will to not give up. Before birth, I had to fight just to stay alive. My mother almost had two miscarriages with me, but I was a fighter way back then and I am a fighter now. My mother said I was determined that she would go full term with me…and she did; because I did not give up. Throughout school, I have been determined to excel in my classes by making straight A’s and receiving numerous awards and accolades. A winning spirit has always been a part of my character.
It was in fourth grade that I decided to start playing softball. All my friends in elementary school played softball or baseball, so I decided to give it a try. The night I came home to tell my parents that I wanted to start playing softball, my dad got up and took me out to a park. He brought a bucket of softballs and his old bat with him. I was not very good when I started, but my parents and all my coaches saw nothing but my potential. If it was not for their motivation and constant faith in me, I probably would have given up a long time ago. But I did not give up and I love playing softball!
Through softball, I have learned many things about myself that I had not discovered before. One of the major things that I learned about myself was that I have a desire to work hard to accomplish my goals. Whether it was in the batting cage or on the field, I always want to continue to work, sweat and grow. Through softball, I learned to be more patient. Not only with hitting and fielding, but in everyday life. I have learned to not let my emotions control me. Without softball, I would not be the person I am today.
I want to achieve many things in life, but first I must graduate from high school and college. I want to be valedictorian of my class in 2023. I want to graduate with honors from college. These goals may seem hard to obtain or maybe even unrealistic to some. I believe I am very capable to achieve all of my goals in the years to come. I can’t wait to get to that point in my life where I actually feel like all my hard work haspaid off.
My competitive spirit and desire to succeed in every walk of life will definitely contribute to me fulfilling my goals and dreams. I understand that I will not win at everything, but as long as I know that I have given a 100%; I know I have done my part. Never giving up, hard work and a desire to succeed are all characteristics that I encompass. They drive me daily to be my best self!
