Hi, my name is Sophia Hulsey I am an all-around athletic player who has played many sports over the years such as basketball, Volleyball (school & club), racing dirt bikes and snowmobiles over summer and winter along with others when I was younger. Always keeping physically busy in a sport but with softball being my main focus I have taken a step back from my other sports and hope I can continue my softball career in college along with my education. I am a player you can put just about anywhere and put full trust into filling the role no matter the infield, behind the plate or even in the outfield. My main positions are short-stop, 2nd base, and catcher. I am overall a utility player that will give nothing other than 100% on the field no matter where my role may be.
This past High School season we finished 2nd in the conference and fell just short of a regional championship. I was also awarded the Heart & Hustle award at the end of the season. The award goes to the most hard-working, dedicated player on and off the field—a player who not only puts in hard work during team practice but additional work outside of it. Going along with that, it is the player who has the most heart for the sport and is willing to lay out and do whatever it takes for their team. I am beyond grateful to have received this award!
One of my game highlights from this past summer during travel ball was at a tournament on Father's Day. We were down 2 runs in the bottom of the last inning with 2 outs and I hit a 2 run homer to tie up the game. This highlight means more to me than just a home run. It made me feel as if the outside-of-practice hitting off the pitching machine and tee work had paid off when I needed to clutch up the most for my team.
Another highlight I would like to include was also from this past summer while playing defense in the championship game. It was the bottom of the last inning and time had expired. The bases were loaded and we only had 1 out and we were only up by 1. I was playing 2nd base at the time, I had a diving catch and threw it to first from my knees for a double play to end the game with a win! I knew if I wouldn't have laid out and given it my 110% effort at that very moment, we wouldn't have won the tournament that weekend!
Aside from the athletic aspect of my life, I am an honor roll student and maintained my good grades falling just under a 4.0 GPA during the pandemic. I feel this separates me from most, considering I was able to maintain very good grades because lots of students struggled with keeping on track with academics over the pandemic. I am an all-around hard-working, coachable, self-motivated student-athlete with a strong passion for the game of softball. I hope you take me into consideration to further my softball career and education at your school!
