When i returned to travel softball from high school season, I was the ninth batter in the lineup. I did not feel shameful of hitting in the ninth spot because I am a part of a talented team that continues to challenge me, but I was not satisfied with myself either. I love hitting, I love having long at bats and battling for the base hit up the middle, the ball four walk, or the beautiful home-run over the right fielders head. It is a competition between me and the pitcher, and I don't like to lose. Every time I stepped up to the plate I was ready to be better than my last at bat, I was ready to battle. My at bats started getting better and longer and this eventually lead to my nickname, the grinder, because of my often twelve pitch at bats. I started to work my way up from ninth batter to sixth, from sixth to fifth and then finally from fifth to fourth. The fourth batter spot that I sealed for the rest of the season was between two very excellent hitters, both committed to play at division one schools. I learned a lot from this experience because it shows hard work and consistency pays off, which is true not only on the field but in the classroom. I take pride in the work I have put forth and cannot wait to face my next challenge.
