Ever since I have picked up a softball, there has always been a natural instinct inside of me that has always clicked. For as long as I remember, it has always been a dream of mine to get the opportunity to play at the college level. As a young player of the game, seeing all of the joy and excitement on the college athletes’ faces have made me want to play college softball that much more. My interest in softball has gone from simply joy to true passion.
My dad has coached me in both softball and basketball for a number of years, and he has always made it a point that I learn the true value of having a strong work ethic, combined with mental toughness in order to be able to compete and overcome the adversity in all aspects of life, not just in sports. When most of my teammates just go home after practices or games, I go home, study film, and go to the batting cages or the backyard to refine my hitting and throwing techniques. In order to continue to stay healthy and minimize the risk of injury, I continue to play softball and basketball. Each year that I have played basketball, it has helped me better my reaction time, speed, agility, endurance, situational awareness, and leadership skills that I apply when I’m in my primary position on the field, which has prepared me for the rigorous schedule of a college student-athlete.
On the field, I am a very versatile player; I can play first, second, third, and shortstop. I pride myself in being smart, a selective hitter, and rarely strike out. As a true student of the game, I understand what it takes to be a team player and how to win at any position I may play on the field. I am very competitive and always the dirtiest kid to leave the field after a game or practice. My coaches have always complimented me on how coachable I am, and that I am one of the most coachable kids they have ever had.
My academics are very important to me, therefore, I work equally as hard in the classroom as well as on the field. As a student-athlete, I strive to do my best for both my teammates and my classmates. The major I am looking into is radiology. I am looking for a program and coaches that are focused on winning on the field and achieving success in the classroom.
