Playing softball in college is my favorite dream. I'm a pitcher, play 1st and 3rd base and pitch, and often lead my teams in batting averages and home runs. I am determined to put my best case forward to play softball in college.
I study hard and play hard because that is what it will take to play competitive softball as long as I can. Softball motivates me to get good grades because I know grades are as important as playing ability to achieve my goal of being recruited. Starting high school during COVID made focusing on softball and grades really hard because everything is online. I challenged myself to take an AP course and changed my study habits. When it was hard to focus on school, I would remind myself that I needed good grades to go to college and play softball. I brought my GPA up to 3.85 during my first quarter of high school.
It was also challenging to play softball during COVID because the spring season was cancelled and fields were closed so there was no practice. I continued to practice pitching and hitting a few times a week on my own, but I was disappointed and worried that I'd lose progress on my softball goals and that my friends might lose interest in playing softball. So, I worked with our local Little League to develop a 8-week online training program to keep softball players physically strong and mentally resilient to come back to softball as soon as fields opened. I developed the training program to include a 30-minute all body workout and guest speakers from high school, travel and college softball coaches and players that helped keep everyone motivated. My project was successful because 100% of the participants went on to play fall ball when the fields were open!
I continue to work on my softball goals by improving my pitching and hitting. I practice several times a week with my team, my pitching coach, and on my own. To stay in shape I also enjoy playing competitive basketball. I am working on a plan to provide pitching lessons to younger players so I can teach them good mechanics that they need to be successful. I think it is very important to give back to the softball community since I gain so much from the coaches and mentors who support me on my journey.
Softball helps me stay strong during the good times and the difficult times. I want to play as long as I can because playing softball motivates me to be a better person on the field and off the field.
