Sydney McGuirk '24 Recruiting Profile

I am a softball player.  It's what I do with most of my free time, and to an outsider it might seem like I just participate in a sport, but to me it's so much more.  

It feeds my competitive nature, I love to work hard and push myself to get better.  It has developed important life skills, like time management and the necessity to find balance.  It has taught me the value of community and the need to be involved in it.  My teammates and coaches come from all over the State of Minnesota.  We have learned to think about issues and life beyond our small personal communities.  It has taught me accountability and that cutting corners doesn't work.  Catching is a craft, and I know that with hard work and constant attention to details I get better and stronger.  It has taught me endurance and grit; putting in the work and time doesn't always translate to immediate results.  It has taught me to be a teammate, and how to motivate, teach and encourage others.  It has taught me how to compete, to humbly handle success, and gracefully handle failure.  Softball will be a path to a lifetime of friendships and I know these are all lessons I will carry with me wherever life takes me and fuel my future success.
