The most influential moment in my softball career so far has been playing a four hour game in NAFA Nationals. This was impactful because a lot of memorable things happened within the time period of that game. To start, there was a rain delay, then a lightning delay. On top of that we went into triple overtime with the team we were playing, and this was my fifth game of the day. During that game, I learned a lot. One of those things I learned was how to maintain a competitive attitude when there were several long breaks. Without this I believe I wouldn’t have been able to contribute as much to my team in a way that would have benefited them.
The next thing that I learned was how to not get physically and mentally exhausted. I fueled my body right and would focus on one play at a time and try to stay intellectually checked in. Because of this I could give a consistent one hundred and ten percent effort over those hours. Not only was I able to manage what I could do, but being team captain gave me an advantage of setting an example for the rest of the team. So, they followed and did what they had to do to perform their best. We finally won, after hours of blood, sweat, and tears (literally). However, winning wasn’t what satisfied me, it was the reassurance that our team had done everything that we could despite the circumstances.
