Softball is who I am. I wake up, eat, go to school, practice softball, sleep, and my day repeats. This game is apart of me and I take pride in that. Each and every single day I work harder than yesterday because I want to be that much closer to success. Whether it is catching or it is playing short stop, or I am playing third base, or even sitting on the bench cheering my team mates on. I do anything to make sure that I am my best self for game day.
You could say that the catcher is the eye of the umpire- one who has the advantage of viewing the entire field from a clear perspective. I view this advantage as a duty to my teammates. It is my responsibility to use my strength as a communicator and translate what I see into words that are quickly shouted through my protective gear. Whether it's cheering loudly, reassuring my batter that she's got the next one, or calling plays right before a pitch, I find myself consistently taking on the responsibility of being a leader for my teammates.
