Personal Statement

I have always loved being on the softball field ever since I could pick up a bat. One of my earliest memories is my grandfather taking me out to hit off the tee to get ready for tee-ball season. From that moment on, softball became more than just a sport to me, it became a huge part of my life. I’ve always enjoyed playing, not just for the thrill of the game, but for the friendships built and the lessons learned each time I step on the field.

To me, softball isn’t just about winning. It’s about growth, both as a player and as a person. I’ve had the chance to learn from coaches with all kinds of backgrounds, and each one has helped me see the game in new ways. Their experience and perspectives have pushed me to keep developing my skills and understanding of the sport.

More recently, I’ve started coaching younger girls, and that experience has deepened my connection to softball even more. Teaching others has helped me improve my own game by forcing me to think more critically about technique and strategy. It’s also taught me how to communicate more clearly and confidently, something that has carried over into other parts of my life.

Softball has shaped who I am. It has given me a sense of purpose, community, and joy that I carry with me every day. Whether I’m playing, practicing, or coaching, I feel at home on the field. And I’m excited to keep growing in this sport I’ve loved for as long as I can remember.

Events

  • Camp/Event
  • Western Carolina Softball Camp
  • 12/03/22 to 12/03/22
  • I had so much fun learning more about pitching, hitting, and how to react to things mentally on the field. A big thanks to the coaches and players!
  • Camp/Event
  • High School Pitcher's Spin Clinic
  • 8/11/22 to 8/11/22
  • This was my first pitching-specific camp. There were 5 other pitchers in attendance so we were able to receive tons of one on one instruction from Coach Windy Thees on how to throw all 6 pitches, fastball, change up, curve, screwball, rise & drop. I'll definitely use what I learned today to get better!
  • Camp/Event
  • College Scouting Bureau Collegiate Tryout
  • 8/03/22 to 8/03/22
  • The Camp was conducted by five college coaches. The Colleges represented were NC State University, Wake Tech, UNC Pembroke, Dallas Christian, & Methodist University at Fayetteville. I was evaluated in two positions, pitcher & first base. Videos were taken during evaluations at both positions. Metrics were also gathered for foot speed, throwing velocity, bat velocity, and pitch velocity. Ratings were given and recommendations for improvement offered. I was just back from vacation and very nervous, but very happy at how well I did. I also received an invitation to join their National Team, which I graciously accepted.
  • Camp/Event
  • Gaston College Prospect Camp
  • 7/13/22 to 7/13/22
  • Coach Steuerwald and his Assistant Coaches hosted a prospect camp. There were 12 players attending including myself. The camp was so much fun! We worked through speed/agility/fielding/throwing/pitching drills and at the end, we played a live pitching batting Practice. Great Camp! By the way, two of my Diamond Dawg Teammates just recently committed to Gaston College. Go Rhinos!
  • Camp/Event
  • Junior Day Softball Camp
  • 6/14/22 to 6/14/22
  • Registered in all three sessions, pitchers/catchers, infield/outfield, and hitting, but storms delayed the start of the camp so outfield work was skipped in favor of pitching and hitting instruction. Learned new warmup drills for pitching and was able to compare myself with older, very talented, and more experienced pitchers. I had four rounds of live hitting and hit a line-drive HR on the second pitch during the second 5 pitch session. Overall, had a great experience but it was HOT!
  • Camp/Event
  • High School Prospect Hitting Clinic
  • 8/05/21 to 8/05/21
  • Camp was conducted by Winthrop University Head Softball Coach Windy Thees, the Winthrop Softball Coaching Staff and members of the Winthrop Softball Team. All aspects of hitting were covered. My bunting was greatly improved after this Camp!
  • Camp/Event
  • Rise Up
  • 7/15/21 to 7/15/21
  • First Softball Camp attended. Each station(defense, offense, base-running, pitching, and catching) were led by college coaches. At the end of the camp, participated in a 2hr scrimmage game coached by the same coaches. After the scrimmage, a meet/greet/info session with the Coaches was held.
