My name is Ashley Buss and I am a 2021 right-handed player and left-handed batter/slapper from Houston, TX. My passion has been in the outfield where I can utilize my speed and strong throwing abilities but am also a highly capable middle infielder. As a young girl, my father refused to allow me to play Baseball – saying it was a boy’s sport, but to my surprise, I fell in love with softball as soon as I stepped on the field. Ever since then, softball has been my motivation, and practicing has proven to be my favorite after school activity. My love for the game and my determination to be the best player I can be has fueled my drive to play at the collegiate level.
Aside from my dedication to softball, I have found strength in academics and work extremely hard to maintain my grades as a model student athlete. I was awarded 2018 Spanish Student of the Year and have maintained my place on Cy-Ranch’s Distinguished Honor Roll all three years. This year, I was accepted into the Math National Honors Society (Mu Alpha Theta) as of well as the National Honors Society. Participating in these two organizations has aided me in the classroom as well as provided numerous opportunities that allow me to impact my community through volunteering. One of the most rewarding experiences I have had was the ability to participate in Adaptive Athletics & Miracle League. This program gives children with physical limitations and other needs the opportunity to participate in various sports such Baseball, Basketball, Football & Soccer.
Another part of my high school experience that I have enjoyed is being an officer in various clubs. I was elected Junior Class Vice President for 2019-2020 and Secretary of the National Honor Society for 2020-2021. I also founded and served as President of the Student Mental Health Alliance Club at my high school. Additionally, I was also fortunate enough to receive my school’s nomination for the American Legion’s Auxiliary - Girls State Representative which I will keep with me throughout my years in college and beyond in my future endeavors. The experiences I have had and the lessons I have learned have helped me on the softball field, in the classroom and in my personal life. There is no match for team sports and the realization that being part of something bigger than myself, I am now fully equipped with the tools needed to overcome any obstacles that I encounter, no matter where life takes me.
