My Name is Briana Renteria and as a child, I had a dream about what I’d like to be when I grow up. For some of us our dreams tend to change over the years, we either outgrow them or they are never realized. For me, I tend to make my dream a reality. Not many of us are born athletic. Some have to work at it. For me being athletic and being a team leader came naturally. I discovered a whole new world and a way of life. I am currently involved with my high school basketball, swimming, and softball teams which I enjoy being part of. I am currently in Dual Credit classes and following my career path in Criminal Justice. As a team we tend to motivate and inspire each other, to be the best that we can be. Friends can motivate you to push a little harder and go a little farther.
Graduating high school and pursuing my education in college in Criminal Justice are in my future plans. When you experience success at an early age, it can be difficult to carry that expectation forward. Moving from high school to college, I will realize that I am no longer the one always out in front. Still, I am dedicated, training hard, and now have others to push me. Some athletes pound the pavement to test their mental and physical endurance and others, just do it for fun. For me, it has become my way of challenging myself mentally and physically. Being a team player and a leader has taught me the value of discipline and dedication in prioritizing life. Being an athlete since my elementary years has brought out my competitive side. I realize I can push my limits even further and set higher goals for myself.
At the high school level I see academics and sports as my passion. By continuing my education and my athleticism at the college level, will be great competition and an accomplishment for me. This is something that I have wanted all my life. For me, being athletic and being a good leader is both the most basic and the most complex activity I perform in any day. My collection of awards and medals from my young years till now, is all I could dream of, but nothing compared to the lessons, the friends, the memories and the moments I have had through being a great team player. Being a leader has also taught me how to appreciate family, life and especially how to appreciate myself.
Earning college credits during high school and being an athlete at the same time has shown me how grateful I am by having supportive parents and how a great team leader I have become. My parents have been my greatest supporters from elementary thru high school in academics and sports. They know I am the type of person that can balance academics and athletics and that is which will consume the majority of my time. They have always told me that my education always comes first before anything else. Without an education, my athleticism would not have become a reality. Playing softball at the college level has always been a dream of mine, but can only be accomplished by hard work and dedication. Student athletes tend to be the center of attention on and off campus, so this means I have the responsibility of maintaining a positive image of my school and myself. One day, I am determined to be the best role model and leader that I can be. My dreams can become a reality one day, if I set my mind to it. I have also learned that you can never dream big, if you are willing to make sacrifices.
