As a high school athlete, I have learned so much from playing softball. I have learned that hard work and dedication can really take you places athletically and academically. I first started playing softball when I was just six years old and immediately fell in love with the game. As I got older, softball started to become a bigger part of my life. I am so passionate about softball because it challenges me in every aspect. I am athletically and also mentally challenged every day by my teammates and my coaches. I also love softball because I feel like I am at home when I step foot on a softball field. I also just love the competitiveness of the sport. An obstacle I had to overcome during my high school career was at the plate. As a starting shortstop during my freshman season after a three year break from softball, hitting was one of my weaknesses. I had no confidence at the plate and that not only hurt me as a player, but also hurt my team. While overcoming this obstacle, I learned to bunt as an alternative to hitting. I was able to have many successful bunts during the year because of my speed on the bases and my ability to lay down a solid bunt. After lots of extra hours in the batting cages and more experience in the box, my batting average was taking a turn for the better. As a freshman, I struck out almost every game. But as a junior, I get good hits every game and make contact with the ball every at bat. As my high school career comes to an end, I am looking to further my career as a college athlete and go to a great school to start my career as a nurse practicioner. As a teammate, I will always give my 100% in practices and in games. I will also do the same in the classroom. I will always try to be the best player/student I can be. My goals in college are to grow as a person academically and athletically. I want to graduate knowing that I put forth my best efforts in everything I participated in. Another one of my goals is to make the best memories while I can, whether that's with my teammates or my classmates. I also want to make lifelong friends during my experiences.
