I started playing softball when I was 9 years old, which means that most of the girls my age had better skill levels and more knowledge of the game than me. Although I was behind, I knew I loved this sport. I soon learned very quickly that I was a very competitive person. I was determined to not only catch up to those girls, but to be better. I practiced, paid attention to my coaches, cheered my teammates on, and always tried what my coach told me to do. I have played just about every position in softball and would go wherever the coach needed me, but my true love is catching. I now am the primary catcher for both my High School team and Select team.
After participating in this sport for almost 8 years, I have learned how to have good time management by participating in church activities, keeping my grades up, practicing softball, and still being able to have a social life. Another thing softball has taught me is how to be a good leader. I have also learned that hard work and extra practice will always pay off.
I have so many goals for my last 2 years of High School. My academic goal is to graduate with at least a 3.8 GPA. In softball, my goal is to lead my varsity team to many victories, including the state playoffs. Most importantly, I want to be an inspiration to young girls as to no matter what your obstacle is that you have to overcome; if you want something bad enough and are willing to put in the work and make sacrifices to achieve it, dreams will come true. I also want to prove that a great softball player can also be humble, kind, and helpful to those learning the game.
I am openminded towards choosing a college; it doesn’t matter how big or small, I just want to find my place. In college, I want to succeed in both softball and my academics. My intended majors are either Physical Therapy or Athletic Training. However, my major may change over the rest of my High School career.
I have had to overcome many obstacles to get where I am today. One major obstacle I have overcome was my confidence issue. I used to be a timid player who second guessed herself on the field, but I have learned that believing in myself is a major necessity to achieve my goals. Now, I am no longer timid. I am confident that I am capable of success because of my hard work and dedication.
