My name is Grace Colburn. I will graduate from Bainbridge High School (Bainbridge Island, WA) in 2022. As a student athlete, I am grateful to have the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities including softball, basketball, and Key Club. In the classroom, I push myself by taking AP and honors classes while maintaining a high GPA. As a junior, I was the starting shortstop during a COVID-19 shortened softball season. I also batted third in our lineup and our team upset the top two teams in our league to win the postseason tournament. Based on my performance, I was invited to play in the Kitsap County All-Star game. As a freshman I was the starting varsity second baseman. That year I earned first-team All-Metro League Mountain Division and was invited to and participated in the Kitsap County All Star Game. I have also been the starting point guard for the girls varsity basketball team during my sophomore and junior years and I earned a varsity letter as a freshman. Sports have been a high school highlight for me and I hope to continue to compete in college.
I’ve been playing sports since I was six years old and these experiences have taught me many different lessons and skills such as dealing with adversity, learning how to compete, being calm under pressure, and having grit. Through sports, I have met and learned from so many great people that are a big part of who I am today. These lessons and relationships are the reason I would like to continue playing softball at the college level. It would provide me with knowledge, skills, and relationships that would benefit me for the rest of my life. My goal is to attend a strong academic school that will provide an opportunity for me to continue to play softball.
After college, I hope to pursue a career in the sports field. Attending a strong academic school where I could study economics and statistics would help me achieve that goal. I believe that playing college softball would assist me to be able to break into this industry. I hope to find a college that is a good fit academically and athletically that will allow me to pursue my professional goals.
