My name is Andrea Cherney, I am a high school student athlete at SPASH(Stevens Point Area Senior High-School). I play for the SPASH softball program, I lettered my freshman year. I also run cross-country in the fall and participate in the off-season training in the summer. I've maintained a 3.83 gpa at SPASH since my freshman year. I enjoy volunteering for the community around me. My freshman year I was selected to be on National Junior Honor Society for Ben Franklin Jr. High School. I also volunteer seasonally at churches around my area with the local soup dinners. I have a job at Culver's in Stevens Point. I enjoy working because I try to make everyone's day better in some way, such as making a person laugh. Which also leads to relationships with people, I believe having a positive relationship with a person is important.
I believe that a positive attitude, the belief that you can accomplish anything, and that your mentality is the key to your outcome. In high pressure situations I'll usually be the one person that cracks a joke to help the team calm down, become less tense, and more confident. I like to spend my time occupied, in other words I like to be busy. I like having a challenge everyday, like a friendly competition with myself. I believe a day is wasted if you didn't challenge yourself in some way, athletically or mentally. A short memory is also very valuable to me because when I make a error or a bad play, I move onto the next one, that play is over and done with, can't fix it so deal with it. Make a good play next, play with confidence, not fear. Being a competitor every time I step on that field is also a prime idea of mine. If you're on the field and not giving 110%, you don't deserve to be there.
For post high school I want to go to school to become a physical therapist and assist the elderly, injured, and disabled in becoming more physically able than they were before. When I tore my labrum my freshman year I went to a physical therapist and I fell in love with the job. You help people who want to reduce/rid of physical pain and recover from injuries and more. I knew I wanted to do something with athletes in my future and that is what I want to do I want to be a physical therapist and help people. I one day want to play college softball and play for a program that I can make me a better person and help me play to the best of my potential. And I want to provide for that program, represent them in a positive way, and help that program and my teammates put on for the school. I want to be able to say all the hard work, extra hours practicing, and studying was all worth it. I want to do as many things as I can in this life.
In this world many people are treated unfairly and without respect, I believe everyone deserves the same as the person next to them, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, of appearance, and age. Everyone deserves respect, kindness, and equal rights.
Thank you for taking the time to read my personal statement.
