I consider myself an above average student. I maintain a 3.6 or higher. I am a freshman and have two honors classes (English and History). I volunteer in many programs, both in and outside of school. My best friend and I put together a fundraiser in 6th grade which we had the whole 6th grade class participate in(bake sale). In the end, after going to businesses and asking for donations to raffle and the bake sale, we raised $650 for the American Cancer Soicety. I am the Freshman Captain of my Volleyball team and I just made the JV team for our girls basketball team. I plan to maintain a high GPA (even better than what it is now) because I plan to attend a school with a great Veterinarian reputation or I plan to continue my education in History. School is very important to me. I a very family oriented and support my little brother and his ice hockey games. I started saving for College already by babysitting for anyone that will let me. I love sports. Watching, playing and learning. I want to be the best I can in everything I do. I am a very positive person and know things won't fall into my lap. With all that said, I'm willing to do anything and everything to achieve were I want to be.
****Update: May 4, 2016****
It's funny how things change in one year. I reread my previous Personal Statement above and I realized the impact freshman year has made on me. Initially, I have always wanted to be a Veterinarian, but meeting different friends, from different cultures and backgrounds, I've decided to become a Lawyer. I want to represent abused children and teens. I want to make sure each kid/teen has a chance at life, without feeling the need to hurt themselves. How would me feeling this way help my team? I believe it helps by bringing a positive attitude to the game and to my surrounding teammates. I believe we all need to be leaders to our peers, on and off the court. I used to think sports defined me, but now I think we should be defining sports. By that, I mean, basketball hasn't changed too much over all these years, but we can always bring a different spin to basketball. I think that's where I differ from other recruits. I don't want to be the same. I do want to be stronger, faster, agile, and smarter than the next, but I always want to be positive and grow with my teams, besides individually. This is a dog eat dog world and I know what my competition looks like, which is exactly why my parents have me in private lessons for shooting, defensive footwork, dribbling (my weakest attribute, for now), etc. 3 days a week I wake up at 4:45am to meet my coach, before school. I'm serious about basketball and I want to get better for myself, but especially my team. I thank God for my supportive parents.
