A couple of years, I lost my grandpa and it was one of the hardest feelings ever, I didn’t know what to do with my life. I had family members and friends that would try to take my mind off it but I was just so broken that it didn’t work. Then, basketball started and it took my mind off a lot of things such as personal problems. Basketball has been a really good resort for me when I have problems in life cause when I’m on the court, everything goes away and I’m like a brand new person. A year after my grandpa passed away, my dad got sick and I almost lost him, I felt the same pain that I had when my grandpa died. So when my dad got sick, it was the toughest feeling ever like I didn’t even want to be here anymore and I knew if I did that I would only be hurting my family more and I’d be running away from my problems. Basketball is what has me going right now and I’m glad I can have something that take my mind off things.
Throughout my whole life I had to learn how to please myself, it was hard because I value my family and friends advice and opinions are benefits for me. I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for my family and friend leading in the right path. I thank them so much for pushing and bringing me back on track, I learned some things and I’m here now working hard because I don’t want them to see me fail. They gave me the power and confidence to do whatever I want to do in life and I am forever thankful for that.
Growing up I didn’t have confidence in myself, I always thought that I was going to be a failure. My parents sacrificed a lot things for my sister and I because they never got the chance too. Their dreams for me is to have a better education career so everyday I do what I know what makes they happy and achieve those goals. I don’t want to disappoint them and take advantage of something that has been given because I know a lot of people would undertake for this chance.
Still today I’m not the best I want to be but I wake up everyday with a smile on my face, so that it won’t make me overthink about my problems. I try to set my problems aside so it won’t ruin my day and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t but that’s life. What I have learned from someone special in my life is that you don’t run away from your problems, you face them and that’s what makes you stronger as a person. Also, what I have learned in life is never be satisfied for just good, always work harder and achieve better things.
Basketball is my main priority right now in life, it makes me the person I am today and I am forever grateful for that talent. I know a lot of people that have talent and they take it as a joke, I don’t take basketball as a joke, everyday when I have basketball in my hand I encourage myself to do better. Try my best everyday to make my community proud and last but not least my family and friends, they push me to do better. Everything I do right now is for my parents and I will continue doing things for them and make them proud and hopefully not fail them because they never failed me.
