I am a proud Sanford Lady Warrior fortunate to be the 2022-2023 Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association (DIAA) Girls Basketball State Champions. This 2023 AAU season, I will be played with Team Thrill UA Rise but had to change teams to Hurban Legend, New Jersey. I am a combo guard and have been playing basketball since the age of six. I have aspirations of playing college basketball. As a result of the pandemic, my parents and I had to make the difficult decision for me not to play during my freshman year because my brother has a neurological and an autoimmune disorder, however during the summer of 2020 and 2021, I was able to play basketball with two AAU teams, the Lady Sharks and K-Low Elite. As a rising senior, I now have two years of varsity experience under my belt and have learned a lot during this time. I know this past year of growth and maturity were the main reason my team and I were successful in finishing our season with a championship.
My goal is to earn a basketball scholarship and be able to continue to develop my basketball IQ at the collegiate level but more importantly, I want to attend a college that has a strong pre-med program. I am interested in pursuing a career in medicine for several reasons; I witnessed first-hand some of the medical disparities that people of color face as my parents addressed my brother's healthcare needs. I also want to specialize in healthcare for women because there are not enough practitioners of color who understand the needs of black and brown women, and this is important when trying to find a trusted physician. I envision myself working in a practice that has the same team values as my athletic teams, and being able to influence the future of healthcare is a positive way.
I am a versatile student-athlete and I know that my speed, athleticism, team spirit, and understanding of the game will allow me to make a significant contribution to any team. My love of learning, ability to effectively manage my time, a person commitment to community service, and faith, make me a well-rounded student athlete. My ideal college basketball experience would be one where I can contribute to the team throughout my four-year college career as a high-impact player but also make a difference as a high-performing student in the classroom. As a student-athlete, I have the determination and commitment that is necessary at this level, but I am also eager to learn new things and am not afraid of hard work. Lastly, I understand the importance of developing these skills on the court because they are transferable to my career which is to someday become an obstetrician-gynecologist.
