I am a Foxboro High School Warrior and have been part of the program for the last 2 state championships. Dealing with the circumstances of the pandemic has given me the opportunity to reflect on my life and what matters to me most. I have been an athlete my whole life- playing numerous sports including the game of basketball since age 4. I live for playing sports. That changed drastically on March 16, 2020. I will never forget our h.s. basketball team practice, in which we were preparing for the state championship finals. While on the court, my coach received a phone call that informed us that the game was being cancelled. Through the devastated eyes of my senior teammates, I realized I did not want my athletic story to end in high school. They had realized they just played their last game on the court and I did not want that for me. I had more to prove, more to enjoy with the game I loved so much. A dark chapter of my basketball story occurred on December 13, 2019 - there was 10 seconds left on the clock. It was the first game of the season, I had high hopes as the 7th player off the bench with a group pf four senior starters I was to be counted on the make an impact. But I broke my hand driving to the basket, I couldn't even take my foul shots. That injury caused me to miss most of the season. The upcoming 2021 season will be my last shot at finishing my high school basketball chapter. We have not stepped on a high school field or court since that day in March due to the pandemic. My high school athletic career is still in jeopardy due to this pandemic. I realize I do not want my story to end with graduation. I want to play sports in college. The following is examples of how I will contribute as a teammate:
Basketball Coaches quotes:
“She is a consistent competitor and brings it every game and practice.”
“One of my best defenders and her hard nose defense leads the team.”
“She is consistent on the court and understands whats going to happen next.”
“A great slasher offensively and a good 3-point shooter- a real pleasure to coach.”
“She has real athleticism - runs the floor really well both in transition and getting back on defense.” “Offensively very strong perimeter shooter, strong moves to the basket and she can be relied upon for a 3 in a close game.”
Teammates quotes:
“Team player”
“Always smiling and making teamamtes smile”
“Always there to help when I am struggling on the court”
“A leader”
I hope to find a school that will find my strengths helpful to their goals as a team. I would like to pursue a career in business or engineering though I have not narrowed down my specialty. I have been told by my teachers that I am asset to their classroom. I regularly contribute to class discussions, diligent student and assist other classmates when they need help with the curriculum.
I feel like I would be a contributor both on and off the court to any college that chooses me.
