My name is Ava Boyce. I am currently a junior at Gretna High School in Gretna, Nebraska. I am in the graduating class of 2024. I have been playing basketball since I was 4 years old for my local hometown team. Even then, I was told there was a spark in my eye for the sport. Everyday since then, I have wanted to practice and be in the gym where my passion for the sport grew along with my skills. I take pride in strong work ethic, drive, positive energy and motivation to build upon my success. I joined my first club team in third grade for Gretna Basketball Association where I was taught to shoot and drive with my right hand. Since I am left handed, I was always the odd one out but as I grow older I have come to find that being left handed is a very special gift. I am 5'4" with a very strong ball handling ability. I am very successful with my shooting and am working hard everyday to be just as successful in driving despite my height. Although I may not be as tall as others, I work on defense as much as I do on offense. I have learned that the only way to get to offense is by working just as hard, if not harder, on defense. I work on agility ladders for footwork and on a yoga ball for balance. I also practice shooting outside of formal practices on a regular basis. Not only do I work hard on the court but I work very hard in the classroom; striving to be a successful student and athlete. I have a 3.8 GPA while taking multiple college prep level classes in math, science, english and algebra. I am excited to continue to play basketball and look forward to the contribution I can make on your college team.
