As a student-athlete, I take both school and sports extremely seriously. To be at the next level in school, I choose to stand out by going above and beyond. Meaning, I go in depth with schoolwork being done. I'm a group leader and take initiative in group projects. On the other hand, sports is very similar, I encourage my teammates when they didn't get the ball over the net or didn't make a shot. On the bench it is important to be a positive factor in cheering and supporting my teammates. I believe that by making my teammates better than focusing on just my successes, it will grow my team and in the end make everyone an effective player.
Character is a huge part of being not only a good candidate but a great candidate for your team. I learn from my coaches feedback and make the next play better than the last. On the court I stay focused on the game and not be defeated if we are playing a tough opponent. Character isn't just the way you portray yourself on the court, it's your attitude and your personality as well.
Academics comes first to me, without the education, I wouldn't be bumping a volleyball or going to the line to shoot a free throw. To me, athletics is a reward for the hard work and effort I put in to my schoolwork. Playing sports helps me to not give up and keep pushing myself to my goals. It is not just winning championships but growing bonds between your teamates and to allow your teamates to make you grow into an extrodinary person.
I have a love for the game of volleyball and basketball. Playing allows me to relieve stress from life outside of athletics. To me sports isn’t just to be known by others. Sports is an outlet that makes me a better person and to stay humble. Being humble and composed is key to getting playing time. I choose to stay that way no matter how many points I score for my team.
It takes heart and discipline to play a sport. It is not the attention that I get that makes me want, it is the experience and the love I have for it that allows me to do the best I can.
