Younger me would’ve never believed that I would be playing basketball at a varsity level for all the chances I got to play in high school. I began my journey with basketball in 6th grade when my coach came up to me and encouraged me to try out for the team. I was a very athletic young lady but basketball never seemed in my interest. I took the risk and tried out for the team as a 6th grader and made it on the 7th grade team of my middle school. Since then I’ve been playing basketball for all my years of school that followed 6th grade. Basketball has been one of the greatest things to happen to me. Aside from being my escape from society, I find a sense of inspiration from playing the sport because of how people analyze the way I play and the compliments I recieve. At the age of 13 or so I was diagnosed with Graves’ disease. This has a fairly negative impact on me and my sports life. Without a doubt, it’s been very difficult to be an athlete and control my aggression and emotions on the court. However, throughout this roller coaster, I believe I have done a significantly great change to my attitude and I control it a lot better than I could ever control it before. Regardless of my difficulties, I never let this affect the way I play. I play as a team player who gives chances to everyone on the team no matter how skilled they are. I believe that everyone on the court has a purpose and as a point guard I use my examination to read the court and provide for my team in areas where there is room for things to be done. I disagree with the idea that the point guard should be the leading point scorers and that reflects in my schools stats with my assists per game and with the leading point scorers on my team. Ultimately, I believe that I am different than other recruiters because of how I play, how I analyze the court, and how I face difficulties to become the strongest version of myself to be able to become a strong player for my team. My ultimate goal is to be able to attend a college that fits my need so I can continue playing the sport I love most. I am open to any opportunities and hope to find the best fit for me.
