The second a player walks into a National Showcase, or plays in a National Tournament like Run for the Roses or Tournament of Champions , you become aware there are at least 6000 other girls with the same dream I have, to play the sport I love in college. As large as that number is , it only represents the girls present , and not the thousands who can play just as hard , but couldn’t travel to all of these locations. I am blessed to wake up everyday and get to do something that I love but has also taught me life lessons. I’m a point guard. I was expected at a young age to see the court , run the plays , lead the team. My attitude meant everything and the other players would depend on my calm head. That lesson has helped me in so many other aspects of my life. I learned to work hard , and know someone always is working just as hard as me. I have learned that mistakes I make are in front of many but that those mistakes have made me better , think differently and listen even closer to my coaches. Those lessons alone I can apply to my life as a whole. I have also met some amazing people , people I would never have had the pleasure of meeting. I’m lucky to say I have a loving family and a loving basketball family. Other players I call friends and have been so important to me. I want to study psychology. I feel like anyone who has ever spent any time at a tournament , a practice or a championship game can identify so many aspects of the human psyche. Basketball has been part of my life for so long and playing in college is a dream I have had since I was five years old. This is the final year of high school and it’s more real than ever. Im
excited for my next chapter and grateful to call basketball my passion.
