Rae Sawyer '22 Recruiting Profile

My Name is Rae Sawyer, I started playing organized basketball in the 5th grade and it quickly became more than a pastime or extracurricular activity; it became my passion.  Since then it has been my dream and focus to play at the collegiate level and ultimately in the WNBA.  These are no doubt lofty goals, but I am driven to do what it takes to achieve them. I am coachable, have a strong desire to get better and, above all, I’m a hard worker.  My parents have provided me with an amazing support system which has allowed me to pursue my passion.  

I am currently a junior at Elmont Memorial High School on Long Island where I've been the starting point guard on the girls varsity team since my freshman year,  My primary position is point guard, but I also play the role of shooting guard.  This season I am averaging 9.6 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists per game. Among my strengths are my speed getting up and down the court, ball handling skills, ability to execute well in transition and find open teammates, and applying pressure defensively to cause turnovers and steals.

In addition I’m in my fourth year of playing AAU basketball with Lady X-Men from Brooklyn, New York.  The team has competed in tournaments in North Carolina, Atlanta, New Jersey, New York and Washington D.C.
