My love for basketball started when I enrolled into my school’s “Biddy” program when I was 5 years old. Ever since kindergarten, I’ve always been the tallest on my team and the players I competed against on my island. I have a great view of the court to spot the open girl even when I’m covered. I always look for the open player when I know I’m unable to make the shot. I am a very coachable player. I take my coach’s words into accountability and portray their words into actions. I give 100% when I step onto the court, from the start of the game to the end. Although I was primarily a post player before high school, I have worked very hard on my ball handling and outside shot. I can now play multiple positions on the court. It is important to work on old and new skills. I often practice my footwork by learning new post moves and I'm also working on increasing my shooting range and accuracy.
I balance my academics and athletics very well. Starting off my freshman year, I made the varsity volleyball team with no prior experience. No other freshman made this team. As the year went on, I started to pick up where I left off and start my basketball season while my volleyball season was coming to an end. I made the junior varsity basketball team. My typical school day starts at 7 a.m. and ends at 2:45 p.m. with practice following after. During the volleyball season, I leave campus at 5:30 p.m., while during basketball I would leave at 7 p.m. Practice hours did not give me much time to do homework or to study for tests/quizzes, while getting a good night of sleep. As a two sport athlete, I am able to keep a 4.0 GPA while working hard everyday at practice. Due to Covid this year, I unfortunately did not have a school season for either sport. Both teams tried to keep a weekly schedule of workouts but were put to an end once coaches were notified that the season would not begin.
My parents have supported me throughout my entire athletic career. I would not have the same opportunities without their help. From traveling to out of state tournaments, to paying for and taking me to multiple trainers throughout the years, I would not be at the level of skill I am today.
