My name is Kaleah Lanae Walker. I was born and raised in Chicago Ill until I moved to Charlotte NC in December of 2009. I gained my communication skills from my elementary and middle school, Morehead STEM Academy. There, I made friends, learned how to approach negative people, and how to speak freely without fear of judgement. I grew up (and am still growing up) in a Christian home with my mother, Latoya, my father Kelvin, my little brother, Kelvin Jr, and my younger sister Danielle. My sister is one of the most influential people in my life at the moment. She pushes me to be a better student, a better athlete, a better Christian, and a better sister. Danielle is 16 years old with a 4.6 unweighted GPA. I look up to her because she does not settle for 2nd place. My sister is the reason I push myself so hard in school, during practice, and in the house as well.
I started playing basketball a little later than pretty much every teammate I played with. I never thought I was good at the sport but I thought it was fun. I started off playing with my little brother outside, practicing with him for fun, and then all of a sudden, something clicked. I knew I wanted to leave cheer for basketball and that is what I did. My dad motivated me a lot when I told him how much I loved basketball. All I could do was shoot the ball. My very first time playing with a team was in 8th grade at Upward Sports. I was told I should play in High school by many coaches and Refs that did not know of my lack of experience. The Mallard Creek Varsity High School coach asked for me to play on her team but we declined because I knew I was not ready.
