Personal Statement

Hello my name is Sahaylee Mason. Thank you for taking the time to read my personal statement. Some of my collegiate goals and aspirations are graduating, playing women's basketball, meeting new people, making new friends and maintaining a 4.0 grade point average. My biggest collegiate goal and aspiration is to find the perfect school where I can both pursue my orthodontics degree and have a positive impact on the women's basketball program.

I believe I am a good candidate for this team because I have a special love and passion for the game of basketball. I am an excellent teammate and I am willing to do whatever it takes to help make the team better. I set a good example by showing up to practices early. If it is allowed, I will stay late after practice to get shots up or work on different parts of my game. I am always open to constructive criticism and use that to improve my game.

I believe there are many factors that make me different from other recruits in character, athletically and academically. I have a very strong character. I have excellent leadership skills that blend perfectly with the point guard position. I am a proud Native American woman and I am an enrolled tribal member of the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians. Culture is very important to me. I have 3 younger brothers and 1 younger sister. I pride myself on being the best possible role model I can be. Especially academically and athletically. It is my hope that they see through hard work and dedication anything is possible and good things happen. Athletically, I have the unique ability to control the pace of a game. I can score when needed but I also know how and when to get my teammates involved. I am a 3 sport athlete. When I'm not on a basketball court, I enjoy playing volleyball and softball. Academically, I know that school work always comes first and that playing sports is a privilege. I have consistently been an honor roll student since middle school.

In closing, I would just like to say thank you once again for taking the time to read my personal statement. I look forward to talking with you and learning more about your program. I believe I would be a great addition to your team.

                                                                                                                            Sincerely,

                                                                                                                                        Sahaylee Mason

  • What an incredible experience! As a 16 year old I was selected for the Team USA U19 West Women's Basketball Team. I was also the only student athlete at any high school level from Oregon selected to play at this year's World Games. Although I was the youngest competitor at the U19 level, I believe the exprericence I gained will be invaluable as I continue to pursue my dream of playing basketball at the college level. Adjusting to the rules and officiating in Europe is a challenge I embraced. My team made it to the bronze medal game, but we fell just short of medaling. We placed 4th and finished with a 4-2-1 record. We played in two exibition games against professional European teams to get us prepared for the United World Games. In those 2 exibition games we won 1 game and finished in a tie in the second game. Representing my country on the basketball court on a world stage is something I will be forever grateful for.
  • Camp/Event
  • College Coaches Showcase Camp
  • 3/23/24 to 3/23/24
  • I really enjoyed this camp. The camp consisted of pretty rigorous drills with some 5v5 scrimmaging mixed in. I took advantage of the opportunity to get extra work in and attended both sessions. I feel like I learned some very valuable drills that I can take home with me and work on to improve my game. I really liked interacting with the coaches after the camp. I was given valuable feed back that can help me acheive my dream of playing college basketball.
  • Camp/Event
  • Exact Sports Elite Camp
  • 7/15/23 to 7/15/23
  • This was a great camp. I got to meet a lot of new people and compete against elite competition. I learned a lot and received good feedback from coaches on how to improve my game. I liked how they graded me on a scale out of 100 on different aspects of my game. I plan on using this information to improve my game going in to my Sophomore season.
  • Camp/Event
  • San Francisco State University Exposure Camp 2023
  • 6/17/23 to 6/18/23
  • I loved this event! It gave me a first hand look of what a college basketball practice looks like. We had weight training sessions in the mornings, watched film, did a warm up routine then went in to shooting drills. At the end of each day we would scrimmage. It was nice meeting all the coaches and making new friends. I learned a lot and look forward to implementing new drills that I learned in to my workout routine at home.
