My name is Abby Seay and I love to compete. I have been competing as long as I can remember and began playing organized athletics with soccer when I was three years old. I followed soccer with t-ball and was finally allowed to compete in basketball at the age of seven. I fell in love with basketball and developed my early skills playing with and against my parents and older sister. As I got older, I played baseball instead of softball because boys were more competitive and the game was faster. As I approached middle school, I was able to play four sports some years and I did not like summers because I took most of the summers off to recover. Through elementary and middle school I competed with boys when possible. I excelled in basketball and volleyball at Lugoff-Elgin Middle School and started for the Lugoff-Elgin High School JV soccer team in both seventh and eighth grade. So far in high school I have played volleyball, soccer, and basketball. This year, with everything that is going on, I decide to concentrate on basketball and soccer, not playing volleyball.
My competitive nature has developed into a drive to be the best I can be and always give 110% in everything I do. This drive expands well beyond athletics to academics, my church band where I play bass, my religion, my friends and everything else I do. I love my family, my church family, my teams and my school. I have been blessed with the ability to make friends easily and I am very compassionate for those who are less fortunate than I and my career goal is to teach physical education and coach to help athletes not only develop as athletes but also as human beings. There are so many young people who have difficult lives and see little hope for a great future and I want to help them develop confidence and understand that their futures should only be limited by their willingness to work for what they want.
One of my goals since sixth grade has been to play a sport in college. My best sport is basketball, but my coaches have told me that I have the ability to play soccer or volleyball in college as well. I am aggressively seeking the opportunity to play basketball in college while majoring in physical education and coaching and while I would prefer to be a scholarship athlete, I am willing to consider other opportunities to be part of a college team.
I have been blessed with parents who exposed me early to great basketball players from the past like Pistol Pete, Larry Bird, and others. I have tried to model my game after these players, loving defense and assists as much as scoring. I am an aggressive player and, on many occasions, have frightened my parents as they sat in stands and watched me make aggressive plays that ended up with me in the stands or spread out on the floor. I play hard, I do not quit regardless of the score and I try to encourage my teammates to have the same attitude.
